The Best Self-Care Activities For Lockdown

HIS POST CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS WHICH MEANS I MAY EARN A SMALL INCOME FROM ANY PURCHASES YOU will MAKE. However, I WILL ONLY SUGGEST ITEMS THAT I HAVE USED MYSELF AND/OR FULLY TRUST. * Click here for more info!

Hello everyone!

After a couple of months, I am finally back. I know I’m terrible and it has been far too long. My mental health has been very up and down and I realised that using this lockdown time to relax and take care of myself was exactly what I needed.

It has been a long ass while though. That I am incredibly sorry for. This blog and knowing that I can help people by sharing my experiences on here makes me incredibly happy. I’m never going to stop. That I promise you.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. As I said before over the past couple of months I have been really focusing on self-care. Therefore I have decided to share a few of my favourite activities that you can do even during a global pandemic. It better make for a good enough comeback.

Exercise

Recently, I decided to splurge and get myself a fitbit. It is the best and most useful thing that I have spent money on in a while. The step counter, goals and challenges you can do with your friends pushed me to keep going despite never being a fan of working out at home. However, I now love it.

Doing a 20 minute workout each day and at least a 30 minute walk works wonders on my mental health. I dreaded the moment that gyms had to close but I found the solution. Here are a few of my favourite fitness youtubers. I can’t get enough of their workouts:

Colouring

Colouring is absolutely one of my favourite past times. It always helps me a lot when I’m having an off day and my anxiety is working overtime. It is very relaxing and finishing a colouring page is so satisfying.

During the lockdown, I have been really knuckling down on all my colouring books. Some of them I had lying around for ages but had never touched them.

Just going to put a little shout out to Anita from Sugar and Sloth here for creating this brilliant, colouring masterpiece!

Board Games

I love board games. I have been playing them so much with my mum over the past few months. Since growing up playing board games was a big part of my childhood. As soon as I discovered adult modern-day games, I was instantly hooked.

Out of lockdown, once a month, I would go to a ladies board game evening. A few ladies would just sit around and play board games for a few hours. This is where I discovered all the games that we have been loving over the quarantine period. They include;

  • Port Royal
  • Camel Up
  • TransAmerica
  • Takenoko
  • Sagrada
  • Fluxx

(Click on any title for information on each game. Maybe one of them will interest you!)

Learn Something New

Learning something new can take up a lot of time. This is perfect considering all the free the time we have had during lockdown.

Personally, I have decided to get back into learning Spanish. Learning another language is something that I always saw as extremely important. However, I never focused on it as much as I should have. Especially in school. The lockdown was a perfect opportunity to get back into it!

If you only want to learn the basics, I highly recommend Duolingo. You can learn words and sentences very easily and have fun at the same time.

If languages don’t interest you then check out Skillshare. It is a learning platform where professionals upload classes about anything and everything. You can take writing classes, blogging classes, drawing classes, the sky’s the limit. I am currently learning how to write a children’s book there. It is so much fun and will definitely keep your mind occupied.

Write Something

Let your mind flow and write something. It doesn’t matter what. Start a blog and write about what you’re interested in. Start writing a random short story. Tell the future you about your day in a journal or diary. You will never run out of things to write about and it will always keep you busy during lockdown.

When you find yourself feeling bored, just get out your laptop or a pen and paper and let the magic happen. This may be how a world-famous book in the future is brought to life.

Play a Relaxing Video Game

I am not afraid to admit that this is what I have spent a large part of my lockdown doing. Luckily, the new Animal Crossing game came out only a few days before it happened. It is called “New Horizons” and it is amazing. I have been absolutely obsessed with it since March.

In the game, you build up a deserted island from scratch. You can decorate and grow your house, make friends with animal villagers, go fishing, catch bugs and so much more. The fun is never-ending and a great distraction from everyday life. Especially for those shielding at the moment who can’t get out of the house since the game allows your friends with the game to visit you and your island.

As someone living with a shielder, Animal Crossing has been my main way of interacting with my friends over the lockdown period. It has definitely helped to keep my mental health intact and gave me a way to get the social interaction that I need. Even if as a character in a video game.

I hope this blog post has given you some ideas for things to do. Whether you are still stuck in lockdown or not. They are all great activities for self-care and mental health that I wouldn’t have necessarily done a lot of before. However, I will more than likely continue them after all this madness.

Let me know in the comments, what hobby you have taken up over the last few months. It can be absolutely anything as I’m always looking for new stuff to do!

Thank you for reading everyone! I look forward to interacting with you all again.

Stay safe,

Ruth xoxo

I really need to get back to colouring. I used to colour all the time as a child and then I trie it again as an adult and it was so relaxing. The perfect activity during the lockdown.
