Do you want to stop caring what people think of you ? Is it one of the main triggers for your anxiety? Can it set off just when you’re walking down a busy high street, and someone happens to make eye contact with you? Well, I am here to help you with that. If you use these following tips, you will never worry again, and your confidence and self-esteem will shoot up to where it’s supposed to be.
You deserve to feel amazing so don’t hesitate and let’s get into it!
Stop Caring What People Think – Tip #1
Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
You’re scrolling through Instagram, and you see a picture of someone you know. They seem to have no flaws, they have thousands of likes, and your self-esteem drops rapidly. Unfortunately, this will be all too familiar for many ladies out there, especially if you spend a lot of time on social media.
If you want to stop caring about what people think, then we need to stop doing this. Comparing yourself to others and especially the unrealistic beauty standards in this day of age will not help you at all.
We don’t all look the same (thank god because that would be very confusing). Nobody’s completely perfect, and that’s okay. Feel free to appreciate someone else’s beauty but stop comparing. We are all beautiful. Keep on telling yourself that.
Stop Caring What People Think – Tip #2
Fight Your Negative Thoughts
When you walk past a group of people laughing, do you always assume that they laugh at you? This happened to me all the time until I taught myself how to combat these silly negative thoughts.
All you need to do is come up with alternative thoughts and train your brain into automatically doing this when something negative that makes you very anxious comes to mind. Using this technique was something that I learned in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that I want to teach all of you. Maybe you are too afraid to go to therapy, or maybe you can’t afford it? Am I on the right lines?
That is why I created my FREE fighting self-critical thoughts worksheet to help you take that first step towards combating those thoughts that we really don’t want.
Stop Caring What People Think – Tip #3
Take Criticism as Advice and Not an Insult
A few years back, I really struggled with any form of criticism. Even constructive criticism. It’s easy to take them personally, especially when you are naturally anxious with low self-esteem. You take it as another reason you’re a failure and not another way to improve and become the best version of yourself.
Linking back to fighting your negative thoughts, try to train your brain into seeing any criticism as a positive. If your boss gives you feedback and something isn’t great, then use that as an opportunity to get better and thrive in the business. They are not telling you these things, so you hate yourself and lay awake worrying all night. They tell you to help you. Take it in, get out there, and do your best to show them what you can really do.
Stop Caring What People Think – Tip #4
Tell Yourself How Amazing You Are Everyday
Yes, talk to yourself every single day and make sure YOU know how great you are. Your opinion matters the most at the end of the day. Don’t let anyone else’s opinion validate how you feel about yourself.
Use Positive Affirmations
Don’t forget to use those positive affirmations that I talk about all the time. If you get into a habit, they really do work. Whenever you find yourself worrying about what someone else thinks of you, stop and argue with yourself. Do it out loud into your mirror, do it in your head or even write everything you think into a journal. Tell yourself, “I am beautiful, and I am good enough.” and fuse that deep into your brain.
Stop Caring What People Think – Tip #5
Remember, No-one Really Cares
This part is simple, really. If you suddenly feel that you are being judged, then remember that no one really cares. Most of the time, it is your anxiety talking.
People have their own problems to deal with. When you walk past someone in the street, they ignore how you walk, your body, hair, clothes, and any spots on your face. They do not care.
I know this isn’t always the case. In some situations (in high school for me, specifically), people are horrible and judgemental. That is why it took me a while to realise that no one cares, but 9 times out of 10… they don’t. It may take time, but you can realise it too.
Stop Caring What People Think – Tip #6
Not Everyone is Going To Like You (and that’s okay.)
Just remember. Don’t go around trying to please and make friends with everyone. You need to find your people and surround yourself with them. It doesn’t matter if a few random girls in your class don’t seem to like you. They are not your people, and they are not worth any of your time or effort. Just walk away, and forget about them.
I know it’s hard not to sit and anxiously wonder what it is about you they don’t like. It’s easier said than done, but it’s not impossible. With time and practice, you will soon be wondering what on earth you were so worried about.
It’s time to stop caring what people think…
Once you get all the methods and thoughts above, clicked in, then not caring what other people think will be a breeze. Remember, don’t compare yourself to others, fight those negative thoughts as best as possible, and tell yourself every day that you are brilliant.
Suppose you are not sure how to get to this point where you cannot care what people think. Does it almost feel impossible for you? Yes… if so, you really should check out this course.
