Do you struggle to think of ways to relax after work? Do you just end up going to straight to bed as soon as you get home? Or just sitting around doing absolutely nothing?

I know that feeling very well. When I started working full time, that was all I wanted to do. As if my brain told me that it was impossible for me to be able to do anything else. However, when it comes to self-care, this is never the case!
There is always time to relax and look after yourself.
In this blog post, I will be listing my favourite ways to relax after work. They are all such simple and easy activities and I recommend you do at least one of them after work. They will help you unwind and feel refreshed.
Listen To A Podcast
Listening to a Podcast is now one of my favourite ways to relax after work.
There are so many feel-good and personal development podcasts that you can listen too.
Lie back, listen, and let the positivity and motivation flow through your ears and into your brain. Most podcasters seem to have amazingly soothing voices too. Perfect for relaxation.
A few of my favourite podcasts are:
- The Radical Transformation Podcast
- The Wilder Podcast
- Made Of Magic
- Master Self Love
- The Calmer You Podcast
- Put Yourself First Podcast
Do A Face/Sheet Mask
Another of the many ways to relax after work is to use a face or sheet mask. I only just discovered these last year but they have been a godsend.
I have ended up with a massive collection of them to use after work whenever I’m feeling slightly overwhelmed.
You can just lie down with one on and let the relaxation wash over you. Not only will it make you feel calm, but your skin will also feel absolutely amazing too!
For Christmas, my friend got me a mixture of sheet masks with a Disney theme. Each of them makes your face look like a Disney character. Cool, right?!
Do A Colouring Book
I absolutely love colouring. Coming home from work and immediately getting out all of my colouring books and pencils is something that I really look forward too.
Don’t ever think that colouring is for children. It’s far from it. You can get special adult colouring books which people use to relax or practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness is when you live in the moment and really focus on your mind on what is happening. It is difficult to master but the first step towards relaxation and fighting anxiety.
I highly recommend you try it out.
Play Board Games
Sit down with your family. Switch off from screens and social media and play a board game.
This is an amazing way to relax after work and spend time with your family. You can even invite some friends along and organise board game evenings.
There are so many brilliant board games that you can play nowadays. Ones that will really make you focus and therefore relax.
You can’t go wrong. A few of my favourite games include:
- TransAmerica – Place tracks and get to different areas in America
- Camel Up – Race and bet on camels
- Sagrada – Make pretty stain glass windows from colourful dice
- Tokaido- Have a nice walk through Japan
- Takenoko- Look after a Panda, build its habitat and grow bamboo.
Play A Relaxing Video Game
From board games to video games. Both very different but both just as fun.
I’m not talking about the cliche shooting video games. That is far from relaxing. You won’t get anywhere from playing them.
I’m talking about simple and calming video games. These are my personal favourite types of games. I get way too invested in them but they are all extremely calming.
A few of my favourites include:
- Animal Crossing
- Stardew Valley
- My Time At Portia
Read A Book
This one is really simple and I highly doubt it needs a lot of explaining.
All you need to do is sit down, pick up a book and start reading. Your mind will escape into the book’s world for a while and you will forget about any troubles you have at work (or at home).
I admit, my concentration isn’t amazing. So, I struggle to read books and get focused a lot of the time. Which is really disheartening.
However, when I do actually manage to get into a book. It’s almost impossible to put it down!
Talk To A Loved One
I would never assume that YOU need to spend time on your own in order to relax.
As an introvert who works in retail, I need to be on my own in order to recharge after a whole day of talking to customers.
In some cases, socialising or spending time with a friend or family member is an amazing way to relax. Sometimes, I get too lonely from isolating myself. I highly enjoy just going out for a walk or a drive with my friend and just have a nice long chat.
Alternatively, you can just drive and sing along to songs from your happy playlist together! This brings me to my next method…
Listen To Music
Music has been my therapy in a lot of cases. When I first started suffering from anxiety and depression. I didn’t talk to anyone and music was my safe place.
I would listen to songs that I could relate too or songs that made me feel happy.
The first band that I fell in love with was My Chemical Romance. The message they put across about mental health is so inspiring.
To be honest, I can’t imagine not listening to music when I get home from work. Even if I just put it on as some background noise in my room whilst I do something else.
So, go on. Start creating your happy playlist. Listen to it and relax.
I hope you enjoyed reading my new blog post. I am aware that I’m very late uploading it this week. My internet at home as been terrible recently and I haven’t been able to do much blogging wise. I still apologise and hopefully, the posting schedule for Wednesdays will continue fine next week.
Anyway, what are your favourite ways to relax after work? How do you relax in general? Let me know in the comments! I would love to get to know more of you.
Much Love,
Ruth xoxo
These are all great ways to relax. I listen to podcasts as I drive to and from job locations and I’m fortunate enough to get to play board games or colour while on the job a few times a week. My favourite way to relax after work is to go for a mindful walk. I find it a way to transition between work and home life. I also always read for 30 minutes with a cuppa when I get home.
That all sounds amazing 🙂
I love these tips! We really need to take time for ourselves to make sure we’re relaxed and refreshed.
Exactly! It’s so important to look after ourselves 🙂
I love listening to podcasts after work (especially on the drive home). It really helps distract me from the stresses of the day. I might try to play a board game in the future though! Would be a great way to be silly and have fun!
Board games are definitely underrated, you should try one 🙂 Thank you so much for your comment 🙂
I love a good movie or television show, especially one that makes me laugh. (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is my current favorite.) I do listen to a lot of podcasts too, so I’ll check out some of your suggestions. Xo Nipa | https://fashionipa.com/
