6 self-love practices to start today title image

According to Oxford Languages, the definition of Self-Love is the regard for one’s well-being and happiness. It is something that I try to practice every single day, and you certainly can too! Its been a difficult journey towards being able to love me openly, but here I am. Openly talking about it with you all and giving you tips, which shows that it’s possible for anyone. It may not feel that way right now, but it’s true.

A few years ago, I would be walking around, saying horrible things about myself. It was self-deprecating humour most of the time, and that’s how I coped with my negative thoughts. That was until I discovered self-love and all the fantastic practices involved. So, that’s why I want to share my favourite self-love practices and items with you today.

Self-Love Practices #1

Self- Love Affirmations

I love affirmations! An affirmation is a statement about yourself that you believe to be true. Self-love affirmations involve comments about how amazing you are and how much you love yourself.

I write down three self-love affirmations every single morning and say them out loud to myself. You can write it down or say it in your head, so you don’t look like you are talking to yourself. If I start to feel insecure at any moment during my day, I go back to the three affirmations that I wrote down and read them as many times as I need too. Read it until your brain believes it is what I always say!

A couple of months ago, I wrote a list of my favourite self-love affirmations. If you need some ideas, I highly recommend giving it a read.

Self-Love Practices #2

Meditation for Self-Love

I’m sure you have all heard of meditation by now. I recently discovered it, and it is excellent for self-love. I tend to look up self-love guided meditation on youtube! It’s filled with unique and free options if you would like to give it a try.

Some meditation-videos last longer than others. My concentration span isn’t that high personally, so I tend to favour the shorter 10-20 minute videos. You do what is best for you and give it a go. Shut yourself in your room, embrace the silence and meditate. Trust me; you will feel amazing once you get going.

Self-Love Practices #3

Listen To Self-Love Podcasts

Do you love listening to podcasts? Suppose you want to learn about how to practice self-love and inspirational stories revolving around it. In that case, self-love podcasts will be for you.

Type in self-love podcasts on the app you use to listen to them, and you’re good to go. It’s great to walk around with someone talking in your ear about how you should love yourself and how important it is. A few of my favourite podcasts include;

The Radical Transformation Podcast

Master Self-Love

The Self Love Fix

Let me know if you have any favourite podcasts or if you create one yourself? I would love to check it out!

Self-Love Practices #4

Self-Love Yoga

I discovered yoga as a different form of exercise for myself over the lockdown in the UK. I couldn’t go to the gym, so I turned to videos on Youtube, where I discovered the many yoga videos and “self-love” yoga. It’s amazing how much doing a yoga practice every day can help you stay in touch with yourself. It’s incredibly relaxing, and I end up wanting to fall asleep at the end of a session.

Self-Love yoga will also help you not to feel insecure. The more you do it, the better you will feel. Your mind and your body will feel great, and it’s worth it! I am not flexible, and I struggle with many poses, so don’t let that put you off. It’s still super beneficial to you and your mental health.

Self-Love Practices #5

Focus On Self-Care

You can’t claim to love and care about yourself if you don’t focus on self-care now and then for a week. Put time aside for yourself and do something (non-work related) that you enjoy. Don’t worry about what anyone thinks. If you have a day off and want to stay in and watch Netflix, then so be it. I can’t stress enough how important self-care is and how significant it will be in your self-love journey.

It will allow you to start enjoying your own company more. You will realise how much of a fun and fabulous person you are. Trust me. My personal favourite self-care items right now are sheet masks. They are so relaxing, and they make your skin feel great. What more could you want? I’m super insecure about my skin, so it’s even better for me.

Self-Love Practices #6

Start a Self-Love Journal

Journaling is so much fun! I purchased a bullet journal about a year ago and never looked back. I’m not artistic, and I can’t draw, so it doesn’t look all pretty and aesthetic like some journals, but it does its job. It’s your journal, and you can do what you want with it.

You can use your self-love journal to write down all of your affirmations, your self-love, and care practices for the day. You can find something that you don’t love about yourself and how you can change it if possible and write that down too. You can talk about absolutely anything and get your thoughts and emotions out there. It may just be on paper, but it feels so amazing to get it out of your system. It will get you thinking about how much you love yourself and the steps you need to take to get there.

Want to stop journaling more often but have no idea where to start? You can grab your 101 Mindset Shift Journal Prompts Workbook for only ยฃ8 here!

These are all great suggestions! I love what you were saying about how self-care doesn’t look the same for everyone. It doesn’t have to be a bath and a face mask- it can be chilling with a good video game for hours on end! My personal favourite self-love routine is always yoga, but I never thought to look for a self-love podcast! Thanks for the ideas!
